..."I do think that the fear of eating it [cholesterol] is without merit. Eat more and your body makes less. Less work for the liver and intestines."

Yes, and since eating cholesterol doesn't cause so-called "high" cholesterol, why fear supplying the body directly? And those who refuse to eat fat are expecting their bodies to build house without bricks.

Poor Michael indeed. More than likely he died of drug complicaitons for depression, and such. He was broke and obviously had lots of other problems.

Thanks for reading Dana. I like your blog as well.

I was reading some of the preliminary stuff about Michael Jackson's death and so far, people are saying that his last health checkup showed no signs of heart disease and as one commentator put it, "His cholesterol was better than mine!" I'm going to assume he meant "lower." So, no signs of heart disease, and he had low cholesterol, and I bet his poor heart starved to death. I was reading this bit at the Weston A. Price site about how heart attacks might actually be a lactic acid buildup reaction instead of a clogged artery (the clogs supposedly come after the attack, not before). It said that cholesterol is needed to manufacture cardiotonics that help protect against lactic acid. If that's true, Jackson may turn out to be a textbook case. Too bad he won't also turn out to be an example to others, because they will *so* bury this when they figure out there was no reason for him to die according to conventional wisdom. Or it'll turn out he had some other problem, I don't know.

Hah, very nice. You've got to love marketing like that. Sad thing is, 90% of people that see that are probably like "Ohh, nice!"

There's no reason we can't have "peace" while still being healthy. :)

Sigh, its 2009 and the low-fat, low-cholesterol dogma is still going strong.

I'm sure you would be interested in Dr Uffe Ravnskov's latest book 'Fat and Cholesterol are Good for You' - it's a fascinating book and puts the cholesterol hypothesis firmly in its place: http://tinyurl.com/ok7yw4

all the best,
Anne

I stand corrected on the cholesterol issue. It appears that we can make enough on our own.

Having said that, I do think that the fear of eating it is without merit. Eat more and your body makes less. Less work for the liver and intestines.

I think the people who own this restaurant have been eating so little cholesterol that it's messed up their brains to the point that they are stupid enough to say things like this.

Interesting...what do you base this information on? Could you provide the link or the research. I don't think what your saying is correct but hey, I'm open!

Actually, you don't need to eat cholesterol. As long as you get sufficient fat in your diet, including saturated fat, your liver will take care of making all the cholesterol you need.

Fat phobia still reigns supreme. A supposedly healthy fast food place called "The Pump" opened recently near where I work... they plastered something like "no mayo or butter or any other unhealthy fats - eat guilt free" on their windows. Lordy.

I'm tempted to go in there with a big jar of mayonaise and order the biggest burger they have.
