One-Line Bio

Love is a function of communication so speak up!

Biography

I'm an author, instructor, teacher and Dad extroidinaire. Tired of being skinny and having sand kicked in my face, I became a member of The Charles Atlas Club when I was a wee 10 years old. And thank goodness. Though the program didn't work too well, at least I got the girl!

Fun fact: Almost everyday someone stops me on the street and yells "Yo! It's Walker! Texas Ranger!" I wonder if Chuck Norris needs a movie double?

I've been training clients for (gulp) 20 years and have worked at almost all of NYC's leading health clubs over the years and that is precisely why I created Serious Strength.

I began developing the Slow Burn system when I became a physical therapy aide at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Sports Medicine Center. In 1994, along with one of New York’s leading orthopedic surgeon’s I co-founded a private physical therapy clinic located at New York Methodist Hospital. As Director of clinical exercise, I ran the clinic until 1996.

After nearly 10 years of continuous refinements and application, in June of 1998 I founded and established Serious Strength, a personal Slow Burn training center in NYC. Our clients include CEO’s of some of the country’s largest corporations, famous actors, writers, journalists TV personalities, moms, dads, kids and such.

In an effort to provide the best nutritional guidance possible for my clients, I initiated an intellectual partnership with the authors of Protein Power, Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades and together authored The Slow Burn Fitness Revolution (Jan. 2003, Random House). It is currently in its fifth (sixth?) printing.

I've appeared all over the place - on NBC’s The Today Show, CNN’s The Biz, WABC Morning Show, NBC Live at Five, Fox Five News and more. He has been interviewed by the New York Times and the Washington Post and has appeared on radio shows around the country, including National Public Radio and WFAN in New York City.

I've lectured extensively on exercise including Princeton University, Chelsea Piers, Hospital for Joint Diseases, Mt. Sinai Hospital as well as abroad. I was a senior staff writer for Women’s Basketball Magazine and have had articles published in numerous fitness publications.

I studied at Castleton State College and Long Island University and have an extensive continuing education resume. I played collegiate baseball, am an advanced SCUBA diver and a retired advanced brown belt in Seido Karate.

I'm also the President and co-founder of The National Council for Exercise Standards an organization of exercise professionals dedicated to raising the standards in the fitness industry. Currently the organization is in a state of pause soon to be revived.

My professional certification is by the American Council on Exercise.

I'm available for seminars, speakng engagements and lunch if you're buying. Contact Becky Rankin at 212 579-9320 for availability.
